GenTech Impact Stories Garfield Elementary School

A Game Changer for Garfield Elementary

The GenTech program at Garfield Elementary School has been a transformative addition to a campus already committed to providing its students with diverse, hands-on learning experiences. Known for its innovative cooking and gardening programs, the school expanded its opportunities by introducing GenTech—a cutting-edge STEM program that empowers kids to explore technology.

Initially launched for 5th and 6th-grade students, the program quickly led to Kindergarten through 2nd grade. With dedicated GenTech instructors on campus five days a week, students across these grade levels benefit from daily classes that enable them to make rapid progress through various advanced curriculums. From robotics and rocket science to 3D modeling, circuitry, and even computer building, the students at Garfield are gaining hands-on experience in some of the most exciting tech fields.

The “Crazy Computer Build” class for 5th and 6th graders was a favorite. Over 80 students dove into the intricacies of computer assembly and learned how every component works together to create the machines we rely on daily. At the end of the course, each student left with more than just knowledge—they took home their very own computers to keep forever!

The GenTech STEM program is a beacon of opportunity ensuring that all kids, regardless of their background have the tools and knowledge to success in an increasingly tech focused future.

But don’t just take our word for it. Watch below to hear from Mr. Avilia, the principal at Garfield Elementary, as he shares how GenTech is making a lasting impact on his students and their future.
